Something that I love about being a wedding pianist is seeing the delight on my clients' (and their wedding guests') faces when they see a baby grand piano set up for an outdoor wedding.
In 2024, many people are choosing to have an outdoor wedding, making it harder to plan for music, and many don’t even realize that having a pianist at an outdoor wedding is even an option.
Before you get worried, just know – I'm not carrying out an acoustic instrument into the great outdoors.
That would be… a lot.
Instead, here's how it works:
Digital Instruments
In 2024, technology has evolved massively when it comes to digital pianos. As a 90s kid, I spent some time playing with various digital keyboards of… varying quality, shall we say.
For weddings in 2024 and 2025, I have a full kit of digital piano options. I did an incredible amount of research selecting these instruments, talking with musicians across the USA.
Digital instruments sound so close to the real thing that most guests won’t be able to tell - plus they are lightweight and can be set up almost anywhere.
Piano Shells
While digital pianos sound beautiful, their aesthetic leaves something to be desired. For this reason, I have white and black baby grand piano "shells" that I place them in for events.
With these shells, we can have the look of an acoustic instrument without the logistical nightmare of getting a baby grand piano on location.
Speaker System
As a professional wedding pianist in the Dallas, Texas, area, I also bring my own speaker setup to a wedding. Alternatively, I'm happy to work with a venue's A/V team (if there is one).
